BAD Kids

It is with great happiness that we can formally announce the creation of our Junior Section. BAD Kids will allow young people aged 8 -16 to train for and experience multi-sport events. Junior triathlon is split for competition purposes into two-year age groups (see below). Initially we will have training sessions for all young athletes at the same time; however, when the junior section becomes large enough we will split into juniors (aged 8-12) and seniors (aged 13-16).
  • Tristar 1 = 9-10 yrs
  • Tristar 2 = 11-12 yrs
  • Tristars 3 = 13-14 yrs
  • Youth = 15-16 yrs
Juniors will have the opportunity to train on two days per week, when they will learn and develop skills for both healthy living and competition. We also want to encourage as many junior members as possible to enter and compete in the Taunton Junior Triathlon on 21st September 2008. For a full plan of training sessions until the summer break please click here.
Our main training sessions:

Monday: Athletics/Cycling (Shared with Filton Athletics Academy)

Juniors: 6:15-7:30pm. Seniors: 6:30 – 7:45pm. This session will allow juniors to experience different disciplines within athletics, as well as cycling. Please see the training plan for specific sessions. Cost is £2, payable on the door to Filton Athletics Academy. For more information on Filton Athletics Academy please click (here).
(Filton Athletics Academy is run by South Gloucestershire Council, Bristol & West AC and Bristol & District Triathletes. Its aim is to allow all children to practise athletics and multisports in order to give them an enjoyable experience as part of a healthy lifestyle.)

Saturday: (a) Swimming and (b) Cycling/Running (Henbury Leisure Centre)

Cycle/Run session: 3-4pm. This is an outdoor session using the common (grass)land behind the leisure centre. It will be a mixture of bike and run sessions (see plan for more details). We would encourage athletes to attend both sessions on the Saturday. Cost is £4 in total for both sessions.
Swim session: 4-5pm. This session will develop good technique, and can complement any additional swim sessions that the young athletes attend at other swimming clubs.
We would encourage parents/carers to come along watch training sessions or use the facilities at our training venues while the juniors are training. (We are currently trying to negotiate reduced rates for parents who use the facilities during the junior section training times. More details to follow.) Alternatively, if you would be willing to help out please e-mail coaching@badtri.org - We would be very grateful to hear from you!

Membership

Membership to BAD Kids is required if you attend the Saturday sessions or wish to enter races as part of the club. Current membership fees are £15 for the year. To start the membership process click here. You will need an adult to help you (if you are not an adult!).
